PSA statement on Government's announcement of independent review of physician associate and anaesthesia associate professions

We support the Government’s decision to set up an independent review to consider the physician associate and anaesthesia associate professions. We welcome the proposals for the review, led by Professor Gillian Leng CBE, to draw on a comprehensive range of evidence including research, data and the views of patients and professionals as set out in its Terms of Reference. As the independent oversight body for the regulation of health and care professionals in the UK, the Professional Standards Authority will engage with the review to provide information and expertise. We hope that the review will generate learning to support future changes in professional roles in healthcare.
