2024 Research Conference | Witness to Harm

PSA Research and Witness to Harm| 17 October 2024

This year, our annual Research Conference was held on 17 October in collaboration with the team who led the Witness to Harm research project on the experiences of witnesses in fitness to practise proceedings. The project was funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research. The latest findings and outcomes from the research were a central focus of the conference. Building on this theme, additional sessions presented other research into improving fitness to practise and work to address sexual misconduct. The event brought together researchers, regulators, policymakers and other key stakeholders to learn, ask questions, network, and further the conversation on these key themes.

The conference opened with a keynote speech from Professor Louise Stone from Adelaide Medical School, University of Adelaide, Australia on sexual harassment in medicine.

On sexual misconduct, we will continue to organise presentations and discussion on different aspects of this issue, and in doing so, help identify effective interventions that will support a preventative approach (see more details below).

The topic of conversation

The day started with a full plenary and a keynote speech from Professor Louise Stone on sexual misconduct in healthcare. We also heard from the Witness to Harm team before breaking out into separate sessions looking at Witness to Harm, sexual misconduct and improving fitness to practise before coming back together for a closing session.
