About Accredited Registers

Update on Accredited Registers strategic review

In our last newsletter, we announced that we were to hold a strategic review of the Accredited Registers programme. Since then, we’ve been busy looking at what makes schemes of voluntary assurance effective and seeing how the programme measures up.

This has shown that to be effective, voluntary schemes must be embedded as part of a wider set of measures. When all policy levers point in the same direction, this has an ‘amplifier effect’ that starts to drive consumer choice. Although we can chart improvements to all the individual registers we’ve accredited since 2012, it’s clear that to reach this potential, there needs to be greater awareness and use within the wider healthcare system.

Following consideration of this by our Board in September, we are now engaging with government, NHS bodies, charities representing patient interests and others to understand what feature of the programme would help achieve this. We are planning to publicly consult on proposals in early 2021.

You can find out more about our next steps for the review here.

Registers renewing their accreditation

We are pleased to announce that the following registers have successfully renewed their accreditation:

  • Association of Christian Counsellors
  • Association of Child Psychotherapists
  • British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists
  • COSCA (Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland)
  • Human Givens Institute
  • Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners
  • Play Therapy UK
  • UK Association for Humanistic Psychology Practitioners

This means that these registers are continuing to meet our standards. All registers are asked to renew annually and we publish our decisions here.

We also continue to work with those registers who have expressed their intent to apply.

Accredited Registers in 2019/20
