Response to the Education Committee's call for evidence – Social Work Reform inquiry

We welcome the opportunity to provide evidence to the Education Select Committee in response to the call for evidence as part of the Social Work Inquiry on the Government’s approach to social work reform.

We note the Government’s intention to drive up standards as highlighted in the memorandum published by the Department for Education and to also establish a new regulatory body for social work, highlighted in the recent written statement by the Secretary of State for Education. However, we believe that the Government’s policy intention to improve standards in social work may not be best served by the creation of a new regulator.
