What are we doing?
We have recently started work on a project to review our Standards. This will include both the Standards of Good Regulation and the Standards for the Accredited Registers.
The Standards prioritise the core role of regulators and registers in:
- Protecting patients and reducing harms
- Promoting professional standards
- Maintaining public confidence in the professions
Why are we doing it?
The purpose of the review is to consider whether both these sets of Standards are fit for purpose and properly assist us to review and assess regulator and Accredited Register performance and in doing so, protect the public.
Our intention is that the revised Standards will come into effect in April 2026.
Who do we want to hear from?
We want to hear from anyone who has an interest in the Standards. This can include, but is not limited, to:
- regulators
- Accredited Registers
- health and social care professionals/practitioners
- patient and public groups
- professional bodies and unions
- members of the public.
Why your views matter
Your views and input will help us help us consider how to improve the way in which we review and assess the regulators and Accredited Registers and in turn, protect the public.
How will we do it?
Online workshops
We are starting our engagement with a series of online workshops. We want as much engagement as possible to help us shape the outcome.
The workshops will begin this summer. If you would like to participate in these workshops, please contact us by emailing standardsreview@professionalstandards.org.uk
Consultation
After the workshops, we will have a public Consultation which will last for 12 weeks from September to December 2024. This will be another opportunity for you to provide us with your opinions and experience. Further details about the Consultation will be provided in due course.
We will continue to update this page with further information about the Standards Review and Consultation.
