Following our appeal to the High Court in the case of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and Melanie Hayes, the Court has approved the consent order agreed by all parties that Ms Hayes should be struck off the NMC’s register of nurses.
The Authority is clear that there is no place for racism within society and we will continue to ensure that we and the regulators we oversee work together to take appropriate action. The NMC has committed to learning from this appeal, and we welcome that.
We want anyone who has been the subject of racism by a healthcare professional to feel able to raise a concern and know that it will be investigated and addressed properly.
