PSA publishes response to Scottish Government consultation on regulation of non-surgical cosmetic procedures

19 Feb 2025

We have published our response to the Scottish Government’s consultation on the regulation of non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

We are urging all UK governments to work together to provide a consistent approach.

We are very concerned about the ongoing, unmanaged risks arising from non-surgical cosmetic treatments such as Botox and fillers. We continue to hear of cases of patient harm from undergoing some of these procedures due to insufficient regulation. We support the Scottish's Governments proposals to tighten this up through the introduction of a tiered licensing scheme.

Ahead of the introduction of any further regulation in this area, it is important that people continue to check who is treating them.

We have accredited two registers for non-surgical cosmetic practitioners Save Face and the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practice (JCCP). Accreditation provides assurance to the public and employers that practitioners are competent and that services are underpinned by robust complaints processes.
