Promoting Professionalism: Reviewing our Standards of Good Regulation and Standards for Accredited Registers
Professional Standards Authority - Who we areWhat are we doing?
We are reviewing our Standards of Good Regulation and Standards for Accredited Registers to ensure they effectively protect the public and uphold professional standards. Your input will be crucial in this process.
The Standards prioritise the core role of regulators and registers in:
- Protecting patients and reducing harms
- Promoting professional standards
- Maintaining public confidence in the professions.
Why are we doing this?
The purpose of this review is to determine whether these Standards are fit for purpose in assessing the performance of regulators and Accredited Registers, thereby protecting the public.
The revised Standards are expected to take effect from April 2026.
Who do we want to hear from?
We want to hear from anyone who has an interest in the Standards. This can include, but is not limited, to:
- regulators
- Accredited Registers
- health and social care professionals/practitioners
- patient and public groups
- professional bodies and unions
- members of the public.
Why your views matter
Your views and input are important and will help us consider how to improve how we review and assess the regulators and Accredited Registers and in turn, protect the public.
How will we do it?
Online workshops
We started our engagement with a series of online workshops which began in the summer 2024.
Consultation
After the workshops, we will have a public Consultation lasting 12 weeks from January to April 2025. This will be another opportunity for you to provide us with your opinions and experience. We want as much engagement as possible to help us shape the outcome.
Further details about the Consultation will be provided in due course.
