Authority announces appointment of Associate Board member

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Amrat Khorana as an Associate Board Member at the Authority.

Amrat Khorana holds a BSc in Biomedical Science and an MSc in Immunology. Amrat spent most of his early scientific career in academia, research, and teaching, including working at Northampton General Hospital in its Immunology Department.

In other work as a freelance consultant, Amrat has provided analytical and quality assurance services in pharmacology to ensure the safety of drug development for human clinical trials, and has served as a lay examiner for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, focusing on patient safety and communication.

In recent years, Amrat has supported education and training of the bioscience community across the UK, as well as the NHS workforce at Great Ormond Street Hospital and at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Much of his current work involves working with subject matter experts to develop the education service for NHS staff, using digital technology, and consulting on curriculum design to ensure it is safe, inclusive, and accessible.

Alan Clamp, CEO of the Professional Standards Authority, said:

“As part of our equality, diversity and inclusion action plan, we committed to recruit an Associate Board Member to enhance the diversity of our Board. As an organisation, we will benefit from Amrat’s experience and insights; and we hope that the role will provide him with valuable experience to move on to further non-executive roles in the future.”

Caroline Corby, Chair of the Professional Standards Authority, said:

“We are delighted that Amrat has joined the Board. I know he will bring an invaluable perspective to our work and look forward to working with him over the next two years.”
