Authority announces appointment of Juliet Oliver as new Board member

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Juliet Oliver to the Authority’s Board. Juliet Oliver is General Counsel and Executive Director at the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

The Authority’s Chair, Caroline Corby says:

‘I am pleased to welcome Juliet to the Authority’s Board. The wealth of experience she brings with her, especially in regulatory law and policy will complement the mix of skills and experience of our existing Board.’

The Authority’s Board sets our strategic direction, approves our strategic and business plans, our budget and monitors our performance.

Alan Clamp, the Authority’s Chief Executive adds:

‘I am really pleased that Juliet will be joining our Board. Her knowledge, skills and expertise and background will prove invaluable to the Authority. Juliet is joining us at a very interesting time – we have just published our report Safer care for all and are currently consulting on our draft Strategic Plan. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank our outgoing Board members Antony Townsend and Renata Drinkwater who have contributed so much to taking our work forward over the last eight years.’

Juliet Oliver says:

‘I am delighted to be joining the Authority at this critical time for the wider health sector, and am looking forward to working with Caroline, Alan, the Board and the staff team.’

Notes to the Editor

  1. The Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care oversees 10 statutory bodies that regulate health and social care professionals in the UK.
  2. We assess their performance and report to Parliament. We also conduct audits and investigations and can appeal fitness to practise cases to the courts if we consider that sanctions are insufficient to protect the public and it is in the public interest.
  3. We also set standards for organisations holding voluntary registers for health and social care occupations and accredit those that meet them.
  4. We share good practice and knowledge, conduct research and introduce new ideas to our sector. We monitor policy developments in the UK and internationally and provide advice on issues relating to professional standards in health and social care.
  5. We do this to promote the health, safety and wellbeing of users of health and social care services and the public. We are an independent body, accountable to the UK Parliament.
  6. Our values are – integrity, transparency, respect, fairness and teamwork – and we strive to ensure that they are at the core of our work.
